January 25th Luncheon

January 25, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Randolph Russell is the author of American History in No Time, a quick and easy way to learn the basics.  The book has been used at a number of colleges, but it is easy for anyone to understand and is a great way for parents and grandparents to make sure their families know the fundamentals.  It is also the perfect refresher.  Even those who are reasonably well-informed will find things on nearly every page they either didn’t remember, didn’t have quite right, or never knew.  As a people, we are losing the connection to our national heritage and our sense of patriotism.

·  A study by the U.S. Department of Education found that only 12 percent of our high school seniors were proficient in American history.

·  The Intercollegiate Studies Institute gave a similar test to college seniors at 50 institutions around the country, including Harvard and Yale.  The average grade was an F.

·  A survey by the Freedom Forum Institute found that among the general public, less than one percent of adults can name the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Thomas Jefferson once said, “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free…it expects what never was and never will be.”

This subject is important to us as conservatives, especially at a time when the left is trying to distort our history with the 1619 Project and Critical Race Theory.  Being more knowledgeable will attract others to join our ranks and influence them to vote with us.  Knowing what made America great will help us preserve this “last best hope of earth.”  Patrick Henry said, “I know of no way of judging the future but by the past.
