The Aiken Republican Club guest speaker for its March 27, 2018 Luncheon will be Yancey Mcgill who is a Republican candidate for Governor in the June 12th primary. McGill served as a state  Senator beginning in 1988 for 26 years and was elected President Pro Tempore of the South Carolina State Senate in 2014. Following the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Glenn McConnell, he became the Lieutenant Governor.

John Yancey McGill was born in Kingstree, South Carolina. A lifelong Kingstree resident, the former Mayor of Kingstree graduated from Kingstree High School and later attended The Citadel and Francis Marion College, where he received one of several Honorary Doctorates Degrees for his outstanding work throughout the state of South Carolina. In 1974, he married Pamela Jean Fennell, and together, they have three children and six grandchildren. As the owner of John Yancey McGill Real Estate and a longstanding member of Kingstree First Baptist Church, McGill is a valued member of the Kingstree community.

McGill will discuss his candidacy and platform. In announcing his run for Governor, Yancey said:

“It is a simple truth: the state government is rigged to work against you and your family.

I know this because I spent the better part of three decades navigating this system and working through its loopholes and burdensome regulations to do what was best for the people of my district who elected me.

My experience has taken me from a small-town mayor, to state senator, to your Lieutenant Governor. I have navigated this system better than most – and I know you deserve better”.
